Discuss the communication differences in the workplace between men and women.?
By
Men tend to be direct communicators ("we should…"; "why don’t we just…."). The question "why" is a request for information.
Men are task-oriented – just get the job done, I can work with you even if I hate your guts.
Men are oriented toward hierarchy – this comes from participating in team sports, where there is a coach and captain, and everyone has a defined position to play
Men tend to want to "win" or compete – whose idea is best, which project will get chosen, etc.
Women tend to be more collaborative.
Women tend to communicate indirectly or "dumb down" ideas ("this is probably stupid, but I think…"; "maybe we should think about….") The question "why" signals a problem.
Women are generally more capable of multitasking and sharing credit.
Women work better in a more democratic environment where everyone has a relative equal vote (vs. the hierarchy preferred by men.)
Relationships matter more to women – I work better with/for those I like than with those I don’t
