If you own your own business now is the time to start thinking about what is social media marketing?. This also applies if you do marketing work for other people or just have something you want to promote to others.

Even up until very recently the vast majority of businesses promoted themselves via radio, television and local outlets such as newspapers and circulars. With the development of social media sites on the internet, businesses have turned to this more and more.

When the recession hit many businesses, even large businesses, could not afford to keep advertising in the traditional ways mentioned, with national newspapers and television advertising being hit very hard, particularly as social media can mean you don’t actually pay to promote your business.

Social media marketing is essentially marketing whatever it is you wish to promote, via social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked In to name but a few. The concept is relatively simple, just make enough virtual friends or get enough followers to your pages or linked to your website and then you can just start promoting what you have to offer this way.

Via various options listed on the social media websites you can target your audiences very specifically. This in turn leads to an increase in potential customers and exposure for your business.

Once you have added people to your databases as they have come via the social media sites, do not go overboard on continually contacting them. Whilst you should update your page or post or board daily, do not personally flood them with your offers, they will get bored!!

If you handle your profile correctly on these sites it will enhance and promote your business in a variety of ways, you can add people to your database, or just have lots of potential new clients liking your page.

Some large corporations have decided not to advertise in the normal ways; instead they are pumping their money into online promotions as they feel this is of more benefit, with more and more household name companies using the main social media sites for this end.

You can do the marketing side of your business on the internet yourself, there are plenty of how to articles on the internet and plenty of self help type books on the market. Alternatively you could attend a course or pay someone else to do it!

If you have the time and the inclination, you can use you children’s bedroom as an instrument with which to teach your children on a massive scale and you can use the bedroom in a number of different ways as well. You can use the bedroom as a subtle microcosm of the house or you can point out that what you are tying to do by making your children concerned with running their bedroom will be important to them when they attempt to run households of their own in later years.

You can get them involved with having a tidy, beautiful, useful bedroom. This bedroom can be run on a budget and that budget can be split into pots for redecoration, furniture and bedding. You will control the purse strings, naturally, but you can allow as much input as you can deal with or as much as you dare.

Imagine the knowledge that a child, or teenager if you like, could learn from having run budgets and maintenance routines on a room? The kid would certainly be far better prepared for going out into the big wide world when the time comes. I think that doing it in this way, could be instructive and fun, but it would also create greater opportunities for bonding at a time in a teenager’s life when they seem to want to avoid contact with adults.

The furniture in a bedroom is pretty permanent and does not require changing more often than each couple of years at the most. Redecoration is normally done every two or three years, so the biggest normal, on-going outlay for most parents is bedding. Sheets wear out and styles change. The only downside of keeping your children concerned with running their bedroom, is the expense.

It does cost more than if you do it alone. The most common reason for this is that, if you purchased items on your own, you would purchase them before they were required in a sale or on special offer. You can still do this, but it requires more planning on your behalf, you cannot simply make spot-decisions any longer.

One of the easiest approaches to take is theming. Choose on a theme with your child and then stick to it. You could have a rule that a theme must last at least six, nine or twelve months. This cuts costs significantly. If you can redecorate in a non-themed, neutral pattern or colour, this makes swapping themes easier as well.

This teaches the child the consequence of taking decisions. What is resolved now will be still there for up to a year. It teaches budgeting. It teaches that shopping around is certainly necessary, if you are going to get the best value for money. It teaches colour-co-ordination and the importance of thinking about matching colours before you purchase. It shows that preparation is indispensable to the success of any project.

Done properly, using a bedroom as a microcosm of a household can give your child a leg-up in the real world outside your protection, when he or she has to go and take care of himself.

If you ever asked the big question: am I safe online, and never got a answer, know – you’re not. Day by month by year you leave behind tons of data, web logs, movies, pictures, customer information from online shopping, detailed information about most often visited websites, music and files you download – all that information is out there. This data can be gathered by a skilled specialist to form a complete picture of you and your private secrets. Sometime ago you would hire a detective to do this kind of work, today you just need a computer with access to the Internet. A PC is all that is needed to reveal someones online identity.

It’s all because of People Search Companies and their search engines. They gather all the puzzle of data on any person. The details like address or social security number are a cliche compared to what you can find after digging in the “deep web”. “Deep web” term was created to describe web space containing very detailed information on Internet activities, that even Google is afraid to touch. The Internet stores data from decades of your online activity, and people search engines have access to that secret data.

Recently I read about this guy (let’s call him Guy) who works with a certain lawyer. They see each other in the office and their relationship is strictly professional. The thing is, Guy knows about his colleague too much. He knows he’s colleague has a thing for ‘Creed’ music, he knows, what kind of nude picture he likes to watch, he knows what his wife looked like 10 years ago, and he knows that this same lawyer tends to scream like a girl on a rollercoaster ride. Guy’s sorry it can’t be undone, but one faithful day he just went on People Search Engine website and typed in the lawyers full name. It was the same day he ate the apple from the tree of knowledge. Too much knowledge, that is.

Have you any idea what information you leave online while browsing web pages ? Your activities can be put together in a very precise picture. That picture is your Online Image. Large Companies pay money for that data, because it’s valuable marketing information. But your boss, your friends and enemies have simple access to those information as well. It’s enough for them to get to a page with People Search Engine to suddenly know a lot more about you.

What is the solution ? It hard to stop the technological advancement, and you can’t ban every Background Check Company either. I would focus on controlling your web activity from now on. And, ironically a People Search Engines is a best way to start! First you’ll see, what can be found about you online. From there, you can embrace the responsibility of your online actions. After all, this data is online, because you put it there in the first place. It wasn’t your friend nor foe – it was you. If you managed to put it there, you can also clean it up. And that’s the good news about People Search.
